The Roaring Twenties

Let us show you how on November 18th, 2021, in a class on the elective module "Working with original texts", together with her students from XII-A class, Mrs. Irina Enevska-Krasteva turned the challenges of distance learning into advantages.

New technologies have helped twelfth-graders soak up the atmosphere of one of the most exciting periods in US history, the Roaring Twenties.

With the help of a presentation, prepared by the teacher, the students analyzed historical and cultural processes and sought answers to provocative questions based on relevant excerpts from an educational video on the topic (The Roaring Twenties ).

These props grabbed the students’ attention and helped them built connections between their old and new historical knowledge, learn new terms in English, enrich their understanding on significant cultural processes of the era and imperceptibly prepared them to be submerged in the magic of one of the greatest American authors - Francis Scott Fitzgerald, with whom a meeting was to be held in the forthcoming literature classes.

This is how we reminded ourselves once again that in the Language School not only the foreign languages, but also the world history, culture and literature, stop being "foreign" to us!

This academic year Victoria Dervisheva is expanding her knowledge and mastering her language skills at an American High School

In the previous school (2020-2021) year Victoria Dervisheva, a tenth-grade student, received a one-year scholarship from a highly selective private school in the USA. Victoria underwent a rigid application process consisting of an English test and  an interview and competed with 1174 candidates from 17 countries.

Our young hope, who is currently attending Pomfret High School, Connecticut, is one of nine Bulgarian students accepted as ASSIST scholars this year. She has already achieved great success and been placed on the Honor Roll for her outstanding performance during the fall term. She even joined the field hockey team and was voted “most valuable player” in one of the final games this season.

Here is what Victoria says about her experience abroad: “The school is absolutely amazing, the campus is huge and really beautiful. The teachers are always willing to help but the best part is that there are many students from all over the world and you can learn a lot about  different cultures.”

In our English language classes, we always use the seasons and holidays around us to engage our students. We use activities not only for training but also for fun!
We introduced this different lesson exactly on November 28th  - Thanksgiving Day in the USA.
Here you will find various fun things that our student can do!
In 45 minutes, several sciences were brought together into one world - History and Geography, laced with English or this is the fun side of things that comes with Thanksgiving.
Check out some of the great things we've been able to accomplish in.
First, we answered the question, "What exactly do Americans celebrate at Thanksgiving?" through a specially designed presentation on this topic.
We realized that quite often we forget the magic word "thank you". And how much can it change ... The students were given coloured turkey feathers "I am thankful for ..." where they wrote what they are grateful for on this day and in general.
On a pre-prepared Happy Thanksgiving Day poster, they glued these feathers to a colourful turkey tail - the traditional bird of the day.
Enthusiastic about the holiday spirit, the kids made a "Thanksgiving Card - Handprint" themselves for their parents to make them smile. With the help of tempera paints, against each finger printed on the white sheet, they wrote the five reasons for which they are grateful to their families.
And to keep up with the fun at home, homework was given away - reading a cryptogram "Fall Cryptogram From a Fall Song" by Ellen Robena Field” with the help of their nearest and dearest ones. This is a chorus of a song that marked the end of autumn!
Thank you!

On October 31, 2019, at the request of the young 8th "B" grade Zlatarovtsi in English classes - additional training with Mrs. Bogdana Pasheva was noted Halloween.
The class was pre-divided into five teams with different tasks: short presentation of the holiday; music during the class; classroom decoration; Halloween crossword and delicious homemade treats.
As a result of their effort and enthusiasm, the students strengthened their English skills and expanded their knowledge of English-language holidays in a globalized world.
